Nelnet is a for- profit company that earns money by collecting student loan debts. When account problems arise there is NO ONE at their company that is able to resolve them correctly. I firmly believe that these "Mistakes" are a deliberate strategy to increase their profits.

When I applied for loan forgiveness based on my employment in low income schools for over 5 years, I was denied. When I called their "Help" line, I was given many different theories as to why my claim was denied but no definitive answers. Not satisfied with replies such as "I think it was denied because of ______.", I climbed the levels of "Managers" until I got a solid answer.

Nelnet claims that a gap in my teaching disqualified me. I pointed out that their own TLFA forms list "returning to at least, part-time post-secondary education in a related field" as a valid reason for the gap. I supplied a college transcript as evidence and was again rejected. The manager to whom I spoke said that "MAYBE, the graduate teaching course for biology teachers that I paid for with the loan and earned 12 credits, wasn't the type of class that qualifies." How does an account MANAGER dealing with a 12 thousand dollar debt say "MAYBE that's why we rejected you."?

But what really hurts is that the 3rd rejection letter made no mention of the disputed class that justifies my gap in service. The 3rd rejection letter stated that my low income school was not on the official list. A 30 second web search on my part proved otherwise. The "Manager" was unaware of this issue and continued to argue that the real reason for the rejection was the validity of the class that I took. NO ONE at NELNET knows what is going on in their own company. And they like it that way.

I began this process in July of 2013. I have spent countless hours on the phone and have submitted my claim 3 times. This deliberately drawn out process has caused me to overpay my loan by $600.

I strongly encourage people that are being abused by NELNET to contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and file a complaint. I would also encourage people to contact their state representatives and let them know what kind of job this company is doing for our country.

In closing, I hope you will read an article from the Huffington Post dated 8/13/10 regarding Nelnet. It is very easy to google and details just how dirty and dishonest this company is.

Monetary Loss: $600.

I agree with you. This company make my blood boil!!!!!

when I think about them.

I wish I would know were to go ant=d to whom complain about them, because they are screwing people who study hard first and after work hard for their money and would NEVER be able to pay off their student loan!!!! I paid for 10 years $300 every month and what I got - my loan was $60000 not after 3 year - $57000 - RIDICULOUS!!!!!!Why government doesn't do anything about this scamers!!!!!!!!

Teacher loan forgiveness is a federal program and payment is approved or denied by the department of education. Unfortunately the company the government is contracting with to service a loan is not the decision makers on any of the loan forgiveness programs.

Why not put the intense effort you expended at getting the loan abated into finding a good job and paying back the money you owe on the student loan---like a normal, honest citizen instead of whining and complaining about having to pay for something you, yourself incurred? You will never be successful until you stop feeling sorry for yourself and expecting someone else to pay for your "goodies."

what about the people who have a job and trying to pay their loans, but their payment is more than 10% of their monthly income!

Nelnet not willing to work with you on lowering your payments so you can afford to repay your loan!

Your comment makes me sick. You obviously have no insight as to what these loan sharks are doing to people. I would bet, you may actually be from one of the companyies he is talking about
