So when I went to college I took two PRIVATE student loans, dealing with them has been a pain but they are managed. All of a sudden, I move, get a home phone line and start getting automated messages of someone saying they can "help" me refinance my student loans. Not necessary but thanks.

So finally I get sick of getting hung up on by their *** automated message and call them back requesting they stop calling. They ask for my name, I confirmed, birth year, okay.... They say well you have a loan about to go to default. Um... nope I don't thanks though. The guy then proceeds to say well if you are the person I have on file you do. Well that's a neat trick, never heard of you, never took a federal loan, never received mail correspondence from you. Nope, he then proceeds to ask for my SS#. Yes, because you are definitely instilling confidence in me. Then to start accusing me of not being responsible, really??

Ok, if the debt does exist please send me documented proof of debt, standard practice. Well first you have to give me your SS# so I can prove you're her. For crying out loud round and round. Fine send proof as REQUIRED by federal law to the address you have on file. IF it legitimately was one of mine it will be forwarded to me and we can proceed. Nope have a different address on file. Well it's not mine so good luck with that.

1. How did you get this phone number?

2. Why are you refusing to send proof of debt?

3. Why are you refusing to stop sending automated calls?

Answer: You don't know what you are doing.

Location: Austin, Texas

check the federal website nslds.ed.gov, if you have any federal loans it will show them there with all the information on when they were taken out, school etc and where the loan(s) are currently. Do not risk default of a federal student loan!!

Once it goes back to the government interest rates change, fees are added, wages are garnished, tax refunds taken, if your profession required a license (such as teacher, doctor etc) they can take it away. If it is there do a forbarance to stop the delquency and than have a long talk with the school about where this loan came from and where you signed for it.

I am dealing with the same thing. I actually have documentation from their company stating that I do not have a balance and I have resubmitted their own letter to them and they are still calling.

I did get a 2 year break on phone calls though...it has only been 12 years since I graduated!

Back to repeated daily phone calls from them. They are horrible

have you checked your credit to see if your loan was sold to them?
